CWRU is raising funds for Nepal. You can make a secure donation online at (leaving the note “Nepal Earthquake Fundraiser” in the “Special Instructions” box):
-Faculty Council: Anna relayed that faculty is working on creating more equality between credit given for time spent on clinical duties vs. teaching responsibilities.
-Committee on Medical Education: Gloria and DaShawn relayed that it’s important to take the LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) survey, in preparation for the re-accreditation of our medical school: https://p3.courseval.net/etw/ets/et.asp?nxappid=HC2&nxmid=start&
In addition, ongoing efforts continue, to renovate and prepare our current space for when we transition to the new medical school campus. Grading for 3rd year clerkships is continuing to be revised for transparency, fairness and comparability between sites.
Council had an insightful discussion regarding the CME decision that medical students are now required to take a practice Step 1 exam at the end of Block 6, administered through CWRU and meet their Society Dean, regarding the results. Council suggested that, given that students have unique study schedules, timelines for taking Step 1 and given that the test is now administered online, it would be optimal to have the mandatory Society Dean meeting before they take this test (by the end of Block 6, many have already decided on a strategy and begun Step 1 study) and that the mandatory test be administered on a somewhat flexible schedule, with multiple dates offered for those with different study schedules/test dates.
-Social: Kevin Allan did a great job organizing a Great Lakes Brewery tour with Mitchell’s ice cream afterwards. Over 20 MSTPs came out and all had a great time. He will send Crista photo documentation. J The annual MSTP Graduation party will take place on Wednesday 5/13 at 5 pm in the 4th floor window lounge.
